The origins of our “Elephant Skin” go back to the 19th century and the Industrial Revolution. New working methods and machines demanded everything from the workers as well as from their work clothing and the materials used for it. Materials like our “Elephant Skin” were increasingly used, especially in heavy industry, as the material was extremely resilient and could even withstand welding sparks.
The name says it all: A fabric that is just as durable and at the same time as supple as elephant skin!
Gradually the fabric develops like leather, although it is made of 100% cotton.
Today, as back then, our “Elephant Skin” is woven by a German weaving mill according to old traditions and reaches a weight of 520 grams. The secret of the robustness of our “Elephant Skin” lies in the high weft density and the thread used as a warp thread.
